Blackbeards Castle

Skytsborg Tower (a.k.a. Blackbeard’s Castle) has everything you need including history, lookout tower, 360 degree views of Charlotte Amalie and its harbor, and three sparkling swimming pools. The compound is completely gated for privacy. The main pool is 60’ x 30’ and overlooks the harbor. You can see the sunrise and set as well as the moon and harbor lights at night. Blackbeard’s Castle is adjacent to other historical estates, including the Haagensen House and the famous 99 steps. It is connected directly to Villa Notman. It has served as a private home, bed and breakfast, part of a historical walking tour and a restaurant. The former living quarters surround a lovely courtyard with the historic tower in the center and a 14 foot bronze sculpture of Blackbeard himself. Legend has it the notorious pirate sailed these waters in the Golden Age of Piracy.

Skytsborg Tower (Danish for “sky tower”) is rich in history. Built in 1679, the tower stands proudly above Kongen’s quarter in the middle of Charlotte Amalie. It was once used as an lookout to identify enemy ships entering the harbor. To serve as a good vantage point, the tower was built about 40-feet-tall with six-foot thick walls. As you climb the spiral staircase hidden inside, you’ll quickly reach the top and find a one-of-a-kind view of Charlotte Amalie harbor, as well as St Croix and all the way to Puerto Rico.

Adjacent to the main pool there is a covered large four-sided bar and seating area that overlooks the majecstic harbour. The property has a full sized commercial kitchen.

At the base of the estate you will find the sculpture of The Three Queens. These beautiful bronze sculptures depict three former female slaves who led a revolt against the Danish government in 1878.  Plenty of parking spaces are available.
